How QR scanning works in CTTP Golf

What is QR scanning in CTTP Golf?

QR scanning is the primary way players submit their distance in Closest to the Pin tournaments with CTTP Golf. The club has one permanent QR code that covers the entire course. It is placed at the flagstick, on a post by the hole, or in a box at the tee, and never needs to be replaced. When a tournament is created, you select which par-3 hole it applies to. The player scans the same QR code with their phone camera, just like scanning a restaurant menu, and the system automatically knows which tournament and which hole it is.

It opens instantly to a simple form, pre-filled with the tournament name, date, and hole number. The player only needs to enter their distance and name, and the result is recorded.

The exact flow step by step

From scan to confirmation it typically takes 8-12 seconds. This is intentionally designed to not disrupt the pace of play.

1
Scan: Point the phone camera at the QR code. iOS and Android open the link automatically without any extra app.
2
Distance: The distance field is the first field. The player enters centimeters and moves on.
3
Name: The player enters their name. The system remembers it next time via the browser autofill.
4
Submit: One tap to submit, and the result appears instantly on the live leaderboard.

No app required

One of the most important decisions behind CTTP Golf is that submission does not require an app. An app must be downloaded, updated, and requires account creation. That is friction, which deters players, especially those who are older or not used to downloading apps.

With QR scanning, the form opens directly in the phone browser. It works on all smartphones with a camera and a browser, which means all mobile phones in use today. No player is left out on the course.

QR codes for printing

The golf club generates the QR code directly in the CTTP Golf dashboard. It can be printed in high resolution and laminated for weather-resistant use, or engraved in metal, wood, or a small plastic plate. The code is placed permanently at the flagstick, on a post by the hole, or in a box at the tee.

The same code works for the entire course. When the club switches between par-3 holes or runs different tournaments on the same day, no new QR code is needed. One permanently installed sheet or engraved plate handles the entire season.

Offline support

What happens if mobile signal is poor at the hole. CTTP Golf is built with offline support. The submission is saved locally on the phone and syncs automatically to the leaderboard when the connection is restored.

The player sees a confirmation on screen that the result is saved and awaiting sync. It provides peace of mind, no results are lost, regardless of course coverage.

Benefits for everyone

  • Players: Fast submission without account or app. Everyone can use it from the first time.
  • Golf club: No manual entry. All results come in digitally and error-free.
  • Sponsors: The scan page shows sponsor logo. Exposure at every single submission.

Conclusion

QR scanning makes Closest to the Pin a modern, digital experience without making it complicated. The technology is simple enough that all players can use it, and powerful enough to replace the entire manual process of paper slips and spreadsheets.

The moment the player scans the code, the golf club is freed from the work of entry. It happens automatically, digitally, and in real time.
